Free time in Berlin

My time in Berlin was absolutely fantastic! Some of the highlights of the trip consisted of hitting several German pubs and going to the Berlin Zoo. I found the most unique pub that would sure be a hit back in the States. It was a sports bar that had several tables throughout the restaurant, just like a normal sports bar. But this bar had one distinguishing characteristic that made it really stand out. Every table was marked with a number and had a beer tap dispenser located in the middle of the table with around 5 spouts. Above the dispenser was a readout that each person at the table could pick a number and do everything from pour your own beer, to ordering food, and you could even select songs from the jukebox. Every persons tab was seperate and you could see exactly how much beer you were drinking. This ingenious invention even had a beer glass cleaning station.

The name of the sports bar was "The Pub". The reason that I tell you that is because it was a chain sports bar that had nightly competitions with the other sister bars to see who could drink the most. Every 0.5 Liters of beer that was dispensed out of our tap was recorded and measured against the other locations. The other locations were in Prague, Munich, and other places in Europe. The competition was televised to every bar and the next picture shows that.

It was a lot of fun to hang out here with my friends, listening to great music, enjoying good food and great beers. Our table came in 5th that evening against all the other sports bars. I think we did pretty good...

The next afternoon we decided to hit the Berlin Zoo. It was rumored to be comparable to the San Diego Zoo. Well, I have to be honest and say not even close. Some interesting facts about the Zoo was that there were hardly any fences around the animals. In fact most exhibits just had a little ditch separating you from the animals. That was cool because you could almost just reach out and touch them. It was a lot of fun and worth the 10 Euro it cost to get in.
